About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Metallurgical Engineer to join our team at HII Corp. Defunct. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for analyzing, researching, designing, and interpreting metallurgical fabrication processes and testing programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze and research metallurgical fabrication processes and testing programs to identify areas for improvement.
  • Design and develop new casting molds and casting production techniques, procedures, and applications.
  • Provide technical guidance during casting production operations, including the addition of different materials and modification of heat treatment plans to achieve specifications.
  • Work with other engineering disciplines to test, analyze, and determine the root cause of defects and failures found in metal products.
  • Prepare technical documentation, including reports, specifications, procedures, and guides.
  • Create new or modify current test methods, fabrication methods, techniques, and procedures to improve metal products based on metallurgical theories.
  • Provide technical guidance to other engineering disciplines for the selection of metal alloys for specific applications to optimize strength, toughness, durability, and corrosion resistance.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • 5 years of experience in metallurgical engineering, with a focus on fabrication of metal products typically used in shipbuilding or other heavy industry construction.
  • Experience in failure analysis of metals and welds, with demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to obtain a DoD clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's or Ph.D. in Metallurgical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience in high strength, low alloy steel fabrication techniques (casting, forging, rolling, hot forming) and other shipbuilding type metals (Ni, Cu alloys).
