Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer with experience in welding to join our team in Newport News, VA. This position will involve engineering and technical support related to the construction, testing, and operations of propulsion and reactor plant components.

Key Responsibilities
  • Field work to investigate, resolve, and improve welding issues.
  • Qualifying and writing welding procedures.
  • Process evaluation.
  • Metallurgical testing.
  • Research and Development.
  • Technical reporting.
  • Audits and surveillance.
  • Reviewing and approving supplier welding procedures.
  • Audit and assessment of suppliers.
  • Act as the welding subject matter expert (SME) for production trades and engineering.
Requirements
  • Candidate must have either two (2) years at level experience with a Bachelors in Engineering or related field, or zero (0) years at level experience with a Masters in Engineering.
  • Candidate must have successfully completed an undergraduate Engineering degree or related field from an ABET accredited program.
  • Candidate must have welding/manufacturing experience.
  • Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • Candidate must be a U.S. citizen.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelors in Welding Engineering, Welding Engineering Technology, Materials Joining, Metallurgical Engineering, or Material Science Engineering.
  • Experience with non-destructive testing (NDT) methods including visual inspection (VT), magnetic particle inspection (MT), dye-penetrant inspections (PT), eddy current inspections (ET), ultrasonic inspections (UT), and/or radiographic inspections.
  • US Navy nuclear propulsion plant experience.
