Job Title: Welding/Mechanical Engineer 2

Maritime Operations within Mission Technologies - Nuclear & Environmental Services is seeking a skilled Welding/Mechanical Engineer 2 to join our team in Newport News, VA.

Job Summary:

This position will involve engineering and technical support related to the construction, testing, and operations of propulsion and reactor plant components.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Field work to investigate, resolve, and improve welding issues.
  • Qualifying and writing welding procedures.
  • Process evaluation.
  • Metallurgical testing.
  • Research and Development.
  • Technical reporting.
  • Audits and surveillance.
  • Reviewing and approving supplier welding procedures.
  • Audit and assessment of suppliers.
  • Act as the welding subject matter expert (SME) for production trades and engineering.
Requirements:
  • Candidate must have either two (2) years at level experience with a Bachelors in Engineering or related field, or zero (0) years at level experience with a Masters in Engineering.
  • Candidate must have successfully completed an undergraduate Engineering degree or related field from an ABET accredited program.
  • Candidate must have welding/manufacturing experience.
  • Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • Candidate must be a U.S. citizen.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelors in Welding Engineering, Welding Engineering Technology, Materials Joining, Metallurgical Engineering, or Material Science Engineering.
  • Experience with non-destructive testing (NDT) methods including visual inspection (VT), magnetic particle inspection (MT), dye-penetrant inspections (PT), eddy current inspections (ET), ultrasonic inspections (UT), and/or radiographic inspections.
  • US Navy nuclear propulsion plant experience.
Work Environment:

This position may require working in an office, industrial, shipboard, or laboratory environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances.
