OVERVIEW

The Senior Product Innovation Engineer plays a pivotal role in advancing engineering principles to meet business goals. This position entails providing technical leadership and expertise while ensuring that designs adhere to established criteria and standards. Responsibilities include conducting feasibility assessments, estimating costs, and developing engineering benchmarks. The role emphasizes creativity, collaboration, and effective communication to navigate complex challenges.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Evaluate supply chain expenses, assess value stream capabilities, and make informed recommendations.
  • Utilize advanced problem-solving techniques to independently address intricate issues.
  • Apply engineering knowledge to various assignments.
  • Guide and mentor team members in engineering practices.
  • Establish and implement engineering and quality protocols.
  • Exercise significant discretion in defining technical objectives for projects.
  • Identify and champion enhancements to products and processes.
  • Lead and execute complex engineering initiatives with minimal oversight.
  • Manage budgets and financial accountability.
  • Present project outcomes clearly and effectively.
  • Coordinate major segments of complex engineering projects to align with cost and timeline goals.
  • Collaborate across the organization strategically, leveraging interdisciplinary knowledge to solve complex issues.
  • Perform additional duties as necessary to meet business objectives.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Research and propose product specifications, functions, requirements, and cost objectives.
  • Work closely with industrial designers to align on design vision and objectives.
  • Offer multiple solution options for challenges and concepts, refining choices through evaluation.
  • Engage with executives, project teams, and external experts to propose innovative ideas.
  • Assess and recommend suppliers, materials, and manufacturing methods for optimal solutions.
  • Create sketches, models, and detailed analyses to support new product development.
  • Develop and specify prototype fabrication processes and materials, overseeing prototype production.
  • Test concept models and prototypes against project criteria and requirements.
  • Proactively identify potential challenges in new products and develop effective corrective strategies.
  • Estimate costs for prototype and production components.
  • Produce clear and comprehensive engineering documentation.
  • Collaborate with Performance Engineering to establish testing plans and evaluate results.
  • Create and maintain accurate 3D CAD models and related documentation.
  • Assist in the development of planning guides and marketing materials.
  • Support quality assurance processes and ensure proper production release.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and quality teams to refine product designs for optimal performance.
  • Assist operations and suppliers with problem-solving and training during production launches.
  • Manage personal workload to align with project objectives.
  • Facilitate regular design reviews with team members and stakeholders to gather feedback.
  • Maintain thorough engineering records and documentation.
  • Support patent disclosures and applications as necessary.
  • Contribute to project activities requiring input from the product development engineer.
QUALIFICATIONS

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
  • 7-10 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional technical teams.
  • Familiarity with Lean principles and their application.
  • Ability to identify continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Effective communication skills across various organizational levels.
  • Proficient in office automation and engineering software.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities and engineering expertise.
  • Proven leadership skills, with the ability to set and achieve team goals.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and respond to project changes effectively.
  • Understanding of business implications of engineering decisions.
  • Capability to perform all essential functions of the position with or without accommodations.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • 3+ years of experience in new product development and engineering design.
  • Proficiency in Pro-E modeling or equivalent 3D CAD software.
