Position Summary
The Senior Nursing Assistant (NA) acts as a skilled caregiver, providing essential support to residents in a long-term care setting during assigned shifts.
Responsibilities include delivering resident-focused nursing care and daily living support under the guidance of a registered nurse (RN).
Demonstrates understanding of and provides age-appropriate care tailored to the physical and emotional needs of residents as outlined in their care plans.
As a vital member of the nursing team, the NA is accountable for adhering to infection control policies and the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment.
This position often involves supporting other clinical staff in addition to fulfilling individual responsibilities, leading problem-solving efforts, and maintaining accountability.
Key duties include assisting with basic health care needs, which encompass daily living activities such as bathing, grooming, dressing, recording vital signs, and offering psychosocial support to residents.
Facilitates resident mobility by assisting with transfers, repositioning, and ambulation using appropriate techniques and equipment, while also providing range of motion and passive exercises.
Responsibilities extend to meal preparation and dining assistance, ensuring a positive dining experience for residents. The NA aids residents during meals and provides hydration and nutritional supplements as needed.The NA supports nursing staff with procedures when required, documents resident interactions and care outcomes, and communicates any changes in residents' conditions to the charge nurse. Collects non-invasive body fluid specimens and monitors vital signs. Additionally, provides housekeeping and laundry services to maintain clean and functional living spaces. Engages residents in wellness and recreational programs, encouraging participation. May also contribute to departmental committees and task forces as necessary.
May be tasked with responsibilities related to the Restorative Nursing program, including documentation, scheduling, and leading restorative activities.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred, but not mandatory.
Minimum age requirement of 16. Two years of clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care is preferred.
Must possess a valid Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification from the State Board of Nursing.
Completion of annual department-specific competency testing and maintenance of continuing education credits is required, with a minimum of 12 hours annually. All necessary certifications must be kept current.
Completion of Restorative Nursing training may be required within six months.
For applicable states, certification and registration with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry may be necessary.
Depending on facility requirements, this role may classify as a Sanford Category II Driver, necessitating a motor vehicle report and proof of a valid driver's license. Must also meet medical qualifications for essential driving functions as per organizational policy.
