Position Overview

Primary Objective:

The individual in this role is a vital member of the Patient-Centered Medical Home team, contributing significantly to the delivery of patient-focused health services. This position involves assisting healthcare providers and the team in the comprehensive coordination, preparation, examination, and treatment of patients. The candidate will fulfill the essential competency requirements for a medical assistant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review patient records prior to appointments
  • Remind patients of their scheduled visits as needed
  • Verify completion of all prior orders
  • Ensure all necessary documentation is prepared
  • Identify gaps in patient care as required

Check-In Duties:

  • Conduct check-in procedures promptly and accurately
  • Record vital signs and other measurements with precision
  • Update all information in accordance with meaningful use and PCHCH standards
  • Execute necessary clinical check-in protocols

Check-Out Duties:

  • Perform check-out tasks efficiently and accurately
  • Administer clinical procedures and orders as directed by the healthcare provider
  • Dispense medications as prescribed
  • Assist with basic wound care as required
  • Refer patients as necessary
  • Accurately complete laboratory orders

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Prepare patient examination rooms
  • Maintain inventory of medical supplies
  • Complete required documentation
  • Follow up on missed appointments and reschedule as necessary
  • Sterilize, label, and package instruments as needed
  • Handle incoming calls from patients, staff, and community agencies
  • Contact patients regarding laboratory results and other reports
  • Schedule appointments as required

Operational Duties:

  • Utilize basic medical equipment effectively
  • Document patient interactions consistently in the EMR system
  • Communicate effectively with providers and team members to enhance patient care

Regular and dependable on-site attendance is essential.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Perform other related tasks as assigned
  • Participate in PCMH huddles, educational programs, and meetings as required
  • Exhibit excellent customer service to patients and providers, promoting a positive image of the organization
  • Provide constructive feedback for quality improvement initiatives
  • Arrive at work punctually and notify supervisors of any delays or absences
  • Answer phone calls in a timely manner and take accurate messages
  • Be receptive to feedback during evaluations and demonstrate a willingness to enhance job performance
  • Maintain and improve personal competencies
  • Adhere to safety and security protocols, reporting any unsafe conditions, and using equipment properly

Minimum Qualifications:

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations in various units of measure
  • Capability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages, and interpret graphical data
  • Ability to follow written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions
  • Proficiency in addressing problems involving multiple concrete variables in standardized situations

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Current and valid Medical Assistant Certification
  • Completion of a one-year accredited Medical Assisting program
  • Current BCLS/CPR certification

Experience:

  • Prior experience with basic computer systems is required
  • Familiarity with basic medical terminology is essential
  • Bilingual candidates are preferred
