The Certified Medical Assistant plays a vital role within the Patient Centered Health Care Home team, contributing significantly to the delivery of patient-focused health services. This role involves assisting healthcare providers and collaborating with the team to ensure seamless coordination, preparation, examination, and treatment of patients. The individual will fulfill the essential competencies required for a medical assistant.
Key Responsibilities
- Patient Record Management: Review patient records before appointments, remind patients of their scheduled visits, confirm completion of prior orders, ensure necessary reports are available, and address any gaps in care.
- Check-In Procedures: Conduct timely and accurate check-in tasks, including recording vital signs, updating meaningful use data, and executing clinical procedures according to established protocols.
- Check-Out Duties: Efficiently manage check-out responsibilities, including carrying out clinical orders as directed, administering medications, assisting with basic wound care, and completing laboratory orders.
- Administrative Functions: Prepare examination rooms, manage inventory of supplies, complete necessary documentation, follow up on missed appointments, sterilize and organize instruments, and communicate with patients regarding lab results.
- Equipment Operation: Operate basic medical equipment and maintain accurate documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
- Team Communication: Collaborate effectively with healthcare providers and team members to enhance the quality of patient care.
Additional Responsibilities
Other related duties may be assigned as needed. Participation in team huddles, educational programs, and meetings is expected. The role requires a commitment to excellent customer service, fostering a positive image of the organization, and contributing to quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
Skills and Knowledge:
- Proficient in basic arithmetic and the ability to interpret data.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Current Medical Assistant Certification.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assisting program.
- Current BCLS/CPR certification.
Experience:
- Familiarity with basic computer systems.
- Knowledge of medical terminology is essential.
- Bilingual skills are preferred.
