ROLE SUMMARY:
The Family Support Worker (FSW) is responsible for delivering a wide range of essential services aimed at effectively overcoming family challenges and enhancing their preventive capabilities through a strengths-based and solution-oriented approach.
The FSW collaborates with families to avert out-of-home placements for children and/or to facilitate family reunification following foster care interventions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate effectively with clients to implement recommendations from various stakeholders (such as Human Services, Community Services Boards, and Court Services).
- Attend all necessary meetings with clients and relevant stakeholders.
- Support clients in enhancing their parenting skills through modeling and coaching.
- Facilitate therapeutic supervised visitations when required.
- Assist clients in meeting the objectives outlined in the Family Intervention Plan (FIP).
- Connect clients with appropriate community-based resources.
- Provide transportation as needed and remain adaptable to address crisis situations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The FSW primarily operates within the community, engaging with families. Responsibilities include case coordination, goal setting, linking to services, advocacy, education, and evaluation.
Community interactions may involve the Department of Human Services, Social Security Administration, local Community Services Boards (CSBs), courts, schools, potential employers, child support enforcement, and other relevant stakeholders/resources.
The FSW dedicates approximately five hours per week to each case, with early morning, evening, and weekend work being common.SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Conduct weekly meetings with Case Service Coordinator and Parent/Guardian.
- Teach and model problem-solving strategies.
- Provide diverse interventions in alignment with FIP goals.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential records reflecting timely assessments, service delivery, and monthly reporting.
- Prepare and submit reports as required, adhering to agency policies regarding transmission methods and timeliness.
- Participate in all relevant training sessions, regular meetings, and scheduled individual and group supervisions.
- Offer transportation when necessary.
- Assist clients in developing essential skills such as budgeting, parenting, and child development.
- Monitor home environments to ensure safety and compliance.
- As a mandated reporter, promptly report any suspicions of abuse or neglect.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or related fields (such as Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, Child Development, Special Education, Criminal Justice, etc.).
- A minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience with the applicable degree is required for the FSW position. Alternatively, candidates without a Bachelor’s Degree must possess at least five (5) years of experience working with at-risk populations.
