Job Summary

Cibola General Hospital is seeking a highly skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team in the adult critical care unit, general floors, emergency room, and pulmonary function laboratory. As a Respiratory Therapist, you will play a vital role in the prevention and care of lung diseases, working closely with physicians and nurses to provide high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Administer physician-prescribed therapies, including oxygen, humidification, nebulizers, and aerosols, with a strong understanding of indications, contraindications, and complications.
  2. Maintain accurate records and charges for all therapies administered.
  3. Communicate effectively with physicians and nurses to ensure seamless patient care.
  4. Enforce safety protocols and precautions in all departments, adhering to hospital fire and disaster plans.
  5. Set up and regulate mechanical ventilators for patients requiring respiratory support.
  6. Perform testing techniques in the pulmonary function laboratory, including flow volume loops, DLCOs, and nitrogen washouts.
  7. Participate in the CPR team and assist with airway management and intubations.
  8. Conduct stress testing, EKGs, EEGs, Holter monitoring, and draw blood gases as per department policy and procedure.
  9. Provide patient and caregiver education, as well as continuing education to stay up-to-date with the latest respiratory care techniques.
  10. Collaborate with the department manager to establish and maintain departmental policies and procedures.
  11. Contribute to research projects and assess new respiratory care equipment and technology.
  12. Participate in teaching and in-service education to enhance team knowledge and skills.
Requirements
  1. Associate Science Degree or 2-year AMA-approved Respiratory Therapy Program.
  2. Pass a national/international administered Respiratory Therapy exam.
  3. Hold a Registered or Certified Respiratory Care Practitioner (RRT, CRT) credential.
  4. High school graduate or equivalent.
  5. Licensed by the New Mexico Occupational Board as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
  6. Current CPR certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Two (2) years of post-graduate experience.
  2. One (1) year of experience in critical care.
  3. One (1) year of experience in pediatrics.
  4. Some Emergency Room experience.
  5. ACLS certification.
Work Environment

The Respiratory Therapist will work in a well-lighted and ventilated hospital and patient rooms, with the ability to perform simple manipulative skills frequently. The position requires hand-eye coordination skills, walking, standing, and sitting for prolonged periods. During some treatments, the therapist may be required to assume uncomfortable positions. The employee may be required to work days, evenings, or nights and may be required to work overtime to provide patient coverage in emergencies.
