Position Title: Head Custodian

Role Overview:

The Head Custodian plays a vital role in ensuring the cleanliness and safety of the school facilities. This position involves collaborating with the Custodial Supervisor to onboard, train, and supervise custodial staff, ensuring that all cleaning tasks are executed efficiently and effectively. In the absence of the Supervisor, the Head Custodian will assume supervisory responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct regular quality assessments of cleaning staff through daily inspections and provide immediate corrective feedback.
  2. Maintain organized and well-stocked housekeeping supply areas.
  3. Oversee inventory management and communicate supply needs to the Facilities Manager.
  4. Perform routine safety checks to uphold a secure environment for all students and staff.
  5. Familiarize oneself with essential building systems, including fire alarms and electrical systems.
  6. Execute general cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, and sanitizing restrooms and common areas.
  7. Manage waste disposal on school grounds, including athletic facilities.
  8. Respond promptly to emergency cleaning situations with urgency and care.
  9. Operate and maintain cleaning equipment, ensuring proper usage and upkeep.
  10. Handle laundry duties related to cleaning supplies.
  11. Perform floor maintenance tasks, including stripping, waxing, and carpet cleaning.
  12. Carry out minor maintenance tasks, such as replacing light bulbs and cleaning air filters.
  13. Assist in the upkeep of campus vehicles.
  14. Facilitate furniture arrangements and assist during meal service setups.
  15. Report maintenance and repair needs to the Facilities Manager.
  16. Engage in weekly check-ins with supervisors regarding supply orders and cleaning issues.
  17. Participate in training sessions and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications:

Applicants should possess basic literacy skills and have 3-5 years of experience in custodial services, preferably within an educational setting. A strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks are essential. Candidates must demonstrate effective communication skills and a commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment for all.
