Job Summary

This position is responsible for participating in the maintenance of the City's water and wastewater systems, including the operation of various types of equipment and tools. The successful candidate will be responsible for repairing and maintaining water and wastewater mains, service lines, fire hydrants, water meters, valves, manholes, and cleanouts. Additionally, they will be responsible for installing new water and wastewater service lines, maintaining chemical sites used to manage grease control, and performing valve exercising, main flushing, and fire hydrant maintenance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Repair and maintain water and wastewater mains, service lines, fire hydrants, water meters, valves, manholes, and cleanouts
  • Install new water and wastewater service lines
  • Maintain chemical sites used to manage grease control
  • Perform valve exercising, main flushing, and fire hydrant maintenance
  • Perform CCTV video inspections of wastewater mains, manholes, and service lines
  • Utilize Global Positioning Equipment (GPS) to provide updates to water and wastewater information
  • Perform work order data entry into computerized work order system
  • Operate and maintain assigned departmental vehicles, equipment, and tools
  • Provide assistance to other City departments as required
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Class D Water or Class I Wastewater Collection certification within two years of employment
  • Class I Wastewater Collection and Class C Water Distribution certifications within four years of employment
  • A Class A Commercial Driver's License within six months of employment
  • Valid Texas Driver's License with an acceptable driving record
  • Ability to respond within one hour for emergency calls
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of related maintenance/equipment operation experience
Work Environment

The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced environment with variable and/or extreme weather conditions, vehicle traffic, heavy equipment, open trenches, confined spaces, hazardous chemicals, and infectious diseases. They will be required to utilize confined space equipment or other personal protective equipment as needed.
