Position Summary

We are in search of a proficient and seasoned Senior Accountant to join our Corporate Accounting division. This role reports directly to the VP, Controller and is responsible for executing month-end closing processes for an institutional special needs health plan (I-SNP) in alignment with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and statutory reporting requirements.

The Senior Accountant will oversee and/or initiate journal entries, scrutinize posted financial data, and prepare financial analyses and reconciliations. Additionally, this position will contribute to the preparation of regulatory reports.



Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Close Activities:
    • Manage monthly financial closing tasks, including the preparation, review, and posting of journal entries.
    • Conduct reconciliations and analyses of assigned balance sheet and income statement accounts.
    • Generate monthly and quarterly variance analyses for management reporting.
    • Assist in the preparation of statutory and GAAP reports.
    • Prepare audit schedules and provide necessary footnote input.
    • Support the documentation of internal processes and controls, suggesting improvements as needed.
  • Internal Controls:
    • Assist in the implementation of a robust SOX framework, ensuring financial integrity and compliance with applicable laws.
    • Engage in project management and collaborate with process owners to identify best practices and opportunities for process enhancements.
    • Work alongside executive management and external auditors to evaluate financial, operational, and compliance risks, developing suitable controls and mitigation strategies.
    • Manage and execute internal assessment projects, focusing on control design to bolster corporate governance.
    • Establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including auditors, to facilitate SOX compliance discussions.
    • Review control testing outcomes, conduct root cause analyses, and support the timely resolution of control deficiencies.
    • Assist in developing training initiatives to raise awareness of SOX compliance requirements across the organization.
    • Prepare and deliver regular updates to management and the Audit Committee regarding the SOX compliance program and audit findings.


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in accounting is required. An MBA or Master of Accountancy is preferred.

A minimum of 2-3 years of progressive accounting or audit experience within the healthcare insurance sector is essential.

Strong knowledge of internal control principles and experience with SOX compliance programs is necessary.

The ability to take ownership of responsibilities, including month-end close processes and SOX implementation, is crucial.

Certifications:

Advanced certifications, such as a Certified Public Accountant, are preferred.
