About the Role
The Payroll Specialist supports the Corporate Payroll function, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing. This role involves managing weekly payroll activities, processing employee status changes, and analyzing payroll data to maintain accurate records. The Payroll Specialist may also audit payroll information for accuracy, reconcile payroll deposits, and participate in problem-solving and special projects within the Payroll Department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with internal Payroll/HR inquiries and requests.
  • Prepare responses to government agency notices regarding employee tax filings.
  • Ensure payroll-related transactions comply with external and internal policies.
  • Track and determine regular and overtime pay, and factor commission-based income or bonuses into an employee's salary.
  • Screen time-worked inputs for errors and monitor computer reports alerting Payroll Clerks to problems.
  • Reconcile errors and maintain payroll records.
  • Review and process payroll adjustments, including vacation, sick, and other time off.
  • Prepare monthly payroll entry and accrual.
  • Field and respond to payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies.
  • Maintain knowledge of rules and laws governing payroll administration practices.

Requirements
  • Associate degree in Human Resources, Business, or equivalent experience in Payroll and HR support.
  • 2 years of experience as an HR Payroll Specialist.
  • Exposure to Labor Law and employment equity regulations.
  • Exposure to payroll practices.
  • Full understanding of HR functions and best practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Highly computer literate with capability in email, MS Office, and related business and communication tools.
  • Fantastic organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
