Job Summary

The Surgical Technologist-II plays a vital role in the operating room, working under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Physician to ensure safe and quality patient care during surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in surgical procedures as a member of the surgical team, passing instruments and supplies as directed.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and ensure the operating room is prepared for each procedure.
  • Assist in tissue retraction, limb support, and other tasks as needed.
  • Ensure instruments are clean and functioning properly.
  • Request additional supplies during surgery as needed.
  • Assist the surgeon during closure, suturing, stapling, cauterizing, and bandaging.
  • Suction blood and other fluids from the operating field.
Additional Duties
  • Transport patients and assist with lifting patients for procedures.
  • Assemble surgical specialty beds with correct attachments to ensure patient safety.
  • Complete necessary arrangements to set up the operating room prior to surgical procedures.
  • Verify package integrity and external sterile indicators prior to opening and internal sterile indicators prior to use of supplies and instruments.
  • Handle controlled and non-controlled medications, preparing and labeling them for use during surgery.
  • Coordinate with vendors, surgeons, and other departments to ensure smooth operations.
  • Maintain and ensure operational readiness of instruments and equipment, departmental supplies, and sterilized items.
Requirements
  • Two years of Operating Room scrub or military equivalent experience within the last three years and competency scrubbing for a variety of surgical procedures.
  • National Center for Competency Testing Certificate - Technologist in Surgery from National Center for Competency Testing OR Surgical Technologist Certificate from National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
