About the Opportunity

The Building Safety Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and compliance of laboratory operations in assigned buildings on the Boston Campus. This position is responsible for managing building-wide compliance with applicable regulatory standards, facilitating a culture of safety, and promoting a healthy work environment.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in laboratory research and environmental health and safety compliance, with experience in meeting EHS requirements in a laboratory setting. A Master's degree in a relevant field is preferred, along with a working knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory standards that apply to laboratory operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage building-wide hazardous material management plans to achieve compliance with Massachusetts and Boston Fire Code requirements.
  • Coordinate with laboratories for the purchase, storage, use, and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Monitor chemical inventories and ensure accurate and compliant management of regulated waste.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) for laboratories in assigned buildings.
  • Collaborate with safety professionals, emergency management professionals, and laboratory supervisors to develop and participate in training and exercises.
  • Participate in the OARS on-call program and emergency response team in the event of laboratory or facility incident with hazardous materials.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, with a minimum of five years of demonstrated work experience in meeting EHS requirements in a laboratory setting.
  • Preferred qualifications include a Master's degree in a relevant field and a background in laboratory research and environmental health and safety compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory standards that apply to laboratory operations.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with strong interpersonal skills to effectively coordinate and adapt for various audiences.
  • Ability to understand and interpret complex written regulations and technical reports, and to seek understanding and decision-making in a data-driven manner.
