IT Specialist

This National Guard position is for a IT Specialist (Policy and Planning), Position Description Number D2177P01 and is part of the IL 126, National Guard. The IT Specialist (Policy and Planning) assists the senior policy and planning specialist by performing the less complex tasks associated with the planning, development, management, and enforcement of approved ANG and local information technology (IT) and communications architecture.

• Analyze requirements and recommend plans of action for improving assigned IT applications.
• Analyze assigned portions of existing and planned IT applications, both hardware and software, to determine current and future potential for enhancements.
• Identify problem areas along with a variety of possible solutions and alternatives and submits change recommendations to a higher graded Policy and Plans specialist.
• Perform as a plans and policy advisor to functional users of information technology.
• Develop and interpret policy for administering IT systems.
• Assess policy needs and reviews, revises, and develops recommended changes to existing policies to govern IT activities.
• Assist in the development of migration plans for implementation of new technology.
• Assess and identify training needs that address activities where gaps in competency exist in either current or new technology.
• Implement IT and communications programs and special projects.

• This is an excepted service position that requires membership in the Illinois National Guard and in the military grade listed in the announcement.
• This is required prior to the effective date of placement.
• Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
• Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
• Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
• Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
• Drug testing may be required.
• May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
• This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968.
• An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.

• Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.
