Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our team at the Cancer Center of Kansas. As a Medical Laboratory Scientist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of laboratory test results, which are essential for providing high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform moderate and high complexity laboratory tests, including specimen analysis, instrument maintenance, and quality control procedures.
  • Initiate and follow quality assurance and safety policies and procedures.
  • Collect and process specimens, including phlebotomy and special procedures.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including daily, weekly, and monthly instrument maintenance.
  • Participate in proficiency testing and quality control activities.
  • Prepare and process specimens for send-out testing.
  • Record and report test results, including peripheral blood smear and complete WBC differential.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records, including accessioning logs, test report logs, quality control logs, equipment records, and checklists.
  • Verify critical results and document follow-up actions.
  • Restock laboratory supplies and prepare reagents, stains, and other chemical solutions as needed.
  • Process incoming orders for lab testing and process in-house and incoming results for charting.
  • Properly identify and band patients for blood product transfusion.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology or laboratory science.
  • Current state license if required. AMT, ASCP, or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
