Job Overview

Position Title: Employment Specialist

Reports To: Program Director/Assistant Program Director/Department Director

Position Summary:

The Employment Specialist is responsible for delivering direct vocational evaluations, job creation, and coaching services to participants. This role involves collaborating to identify necessary support to address employment barriers. The core focus of all activities is on individual recovery through meaningful engagement in the community, fostering contribution and belonging.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Offer job assistance to active program participants.
  • Assess and address the needs of consumers to facilitate effective responses and remove obstacles hindering productivity in daily tasks.
  • Build trusting and supportive relationships with individuals, providing emotional backing while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Develop Supported Employment insights and objectives with individuals, ensuring updates to Individual Support Plans (ISP) based on their specific needs, aiming to enhance physical, emotional, and mental well-being.
  • Support individuals in achieving the goals outlined in their ISP.
  • Provide emergency on-call support in rotation with fellow team members as required.
  • Deliver comprehensive job finding and support services for individuals pursuing self-employment and traditional employment opportunities.
  • Ensure timely completion of all necessary documentation.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in Human Services, Health, or a Vocational/Rehabilitation field is required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in vocational employment services for behavioral health or intellectual/developmental disabilities populations is essential.
  • Strong knowledge of community resources, experience in consumer advocacy, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment are crucial.
  • A valid driver's license is mandatory.

Working Conditions:

This role is performed in both an office setting and the community while supporting program participants. Employees are frequently required to stand, walk, lift, and reach during their duties. Travel throughout the community is a necessary component of this position.

Hazard and Atmospheric Conditions:

  • Exposure to fumes, dust, extreme temperatures, loud noises, confined spaces, mists or gases, mechanical hazards, chemical hazards, electrical hazards, and burn hazards.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lifting Requirements: Heavy lifting, requiring up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly.

  • Physical Activities: Standing or sitting, walking, using hands or fingers for various tasks, climbing, communicating, seeing, pushing or pulling, repetitive motions, reaching, kneeling, stooping, crouching, or crawling.
