Position Overview

The Bilingual Youth Support Specialist plays a crucial role in offering direct oversight, assistance, and guidance to children and teenagers in a nurturing and respectful environment. This position demands a steadfast dedication to the safety and well-being of all youth, along with a thorough understanding of their ongoing needs and concerns on a daily basis. The Youth Support Specialist is tasked with fostering professional and trusting relationships with clients to ensure a positive and healthy atmosphere within the shelter unit.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain a secure and safe environment within the unit and any other areas where staff interact with the children. Respond promptly to eliminate any hazards or threats to the children's welfare and ensure awareness of each child's location at all times. Conduct safety checks as required and document monitoring activities in accordance with established policies and regulations.
  • Execute behavior plans, risk protocols, or other safety measures as per KidsPeace guidelines and under the guidance of the clinical team. Provide necessary support and de-escalation techniques to children when required.
  • Oversee the movement of children on campus with a strong focus on safety. When necessary, transport children to off-campus activities or scheduled appointments using program vehicles, contingent on individual driving eligibility.
  • Exhibit care, compassion, respect, integrity, honesty, and ethical conduct in all interactions with children and fellow staff members within the program and the broader organization.
  • Perform any additional tasks assigned by the direct supervisor or KidsPeace Leadership.
Qualifications
  1. High School diploma or equivalent is required; a college degree in Mental Health or a related field is preferred.
  2. Fluency in both English and Spanish, with demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication, is essential.
  3. A valid driver's license is preferred.
  4. A minimum of one year of experience working with children or adolescents is required.
  5. Availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, flexible hours, and overtime as needed.
  6. Must have received a flu vaccination.
