Job Summary

The University of Maryland Medical System seeks a highly skilled Clinical Informatics Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our informatics team, you will play a critical role in the design, development, and implementation of clinical informatics solutions that support our strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to assess, redesign, and improve the effectiveness and productivity of clinical laboratory and business programs.
  • Anticipate and identify complex clinical and business processes and informatics issues, monitor and measure risk factors, and communicate them to informatics leadership and stakeholders.
  • Manage projects to ensure the implementation of continuous quality control of processes and deliverables.
  • Build and maintain effective networks with other IST team members, across the Medical System, including internal and external subject matter experts.
  • Support innovation in healthcare practice, care delivery systems, and healthcare business and laboratory operations by staying current with emerging trends and literature in healthcare informatics and care delivery.
  • Disseminate and incorporate research findings into informatics and laboratory EHR efforts.
  • Advocate on solutions incorporating organizational goals and objectives to Medical System stakeholders.
  • Meet with stakeholders across the Medical System to review solutions and issues and to gain commitment on recommendations.
  • Facilitate key stakeholder discussion and response to issues which impact laboratory practice, care delivery, and business and revenue cycle.
  • Lead multidisciplinary groups toward solutions.
  • Provide system-level leadership to champion organization changes from inception to culmination.
  • Identify barriers to change and accept and manage ambiguity/complexity.
  • Visibly involved in obtaining customer feedback, incorporating customer requirements into service design, and advocating for technical solutions to laboratory clinical and business processes.
  • Provide support and coach stakeholders in effective process analysis and improvement techniques and in using data to assess and improve unit performance.
  • Participate as a member of various project workgroups, attend meetings as required.
  • Participate in multiple aspects of electronic health record development and implementation.
  • Effectively use, apply, and communicate data and information from multiple sources which affect Medical System programs.
  • Coordinate and conduct the Enterprise and local testing of software updates/fixes and routine maintenance.
  • Develop, facilitate, and coordinate training plans to implement new technology within the laboratories and associated clinical areas.
  • Provide analysis and advanced support, including troubleshooting, system monitoring, and the installation and maintenance of software.
  • Master laboratory applications and organizational workflows.
  • Serve as liaison between application and technical IT groups and end-user community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Informatics, Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or related science and/or a combination of education/experience.
  • Three years of related experience.
  • Where applicable for Clinical Roles, clinical licensure in the State of Maryland, or eligibility for licensure due to Compact state agreements is required.
  • Informatics or relevant industry certification recommended.
  • Where applicable, achieves and maintains relevant Epic or EHR application certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, basic computer concepts, knowledge of microcomputer operating systems and application software required.
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work with all levels within the organization.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills required.
  • Strong leadership experience highly desired.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills necessary to advise and consult with user personnel and make formal presentations of project findings and recommendations.
  • Ability to explain complex technical issues to both technical and non-technical customers required.
  • Self-motivated, highly organized, and detail-oriented skills required. Excellent organization skills; demonstrates confidence and creativity.
  • Demonstrated ability to be adaptable and flexible based on changing business and training environment needs required.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment required. Develops effective working relationships and maintains excellent communications with other team members.
