As a Taxpayer Services Specialist with the U.S. Department of the Treasury, you will play a critical role in assisting taxpayers in meeting their Federal Tax obligations. This position requires a strong understanding of individual income, excise, and employment taxes, as well as the ability to communicate complex tax concepts to taxpayers and their representatives.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct interviews with taxpayers to determine their tax situation and provide advice on tax-related matters.
- Explain tax laws and regulations to taxpayers and their representatives, including the collection and examination processes.
- Assist taxpayers in preparing tax returns and explaining the consequences of different courses of action.
- Communicate with taxpayers and their representatives to resolve tax-related issues and provide guidance on tax compliance.
- Three years of general experience, including one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal Service.
- Ability to analyze problems, gather data, and recognize solutions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate complex tax concepts to taxpayers and their representatives.
- Knowledge of business practices, basic accounting principles, and Federal tax laws and regulations.
- Ability to audit tax records, analyze systems and bookkeeping, and develop interpersonal skills.
You will be evaluated on your ability to meet the qualifications and requirements of the position, as well as your communication and interpersonal skills.
