Job Summary

The Alliance for Community Empowerment, Inc. is seeking a Mental Health Specialist to support the Early Learning Division program by assisting in the implementation of a continuum of mental health services that align with the compliance of the Head Start Program Performance Standards.

This role will involve providing consultation and collaboration to classroom teachers, component specialists, and managers to support the social-emotional development of children, ensuring adherence to the Head Start Final Rule requirements for mental health services.

The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or a related field, and be a licensed mental health professional with experience working with young children and families in a community-based setting.

The Mental Health Specialist will be responsible for conducting classroom observations, assisting with the implementation of strategies to identify and support children with mental health and social-emotional concerns, and providing referrals to external services when necessary.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, and be able to work successfully with young children impacted by trauma and/or social-emotional needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide consultation and collaboration to classroom teachers, component specialists, and managers to support the social-emotional development of children.
  • Conduct classroom observations to assess the social-emotional climate and identify potential concerns.
  • Assist with the implementation of strategies to identify and support children with mental health and social-emotional concerns.
  • Provide referrals to external services when necessary.
  • Develop and deliver training sessions for staff on topics related to mental health, trauma-informed care, and social-emotional development.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or a related field.
  • Licensed mental health professional.
  • Experience working with young children and families in a community-based setting.
  • Knowledge of Head Start Program Performance Standards, the Head Start Final Rule, and early childhood mental health.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
