The Role of Sous Chef at Snooze

As the key support in the Snooze kitchen, you will play a vital role in upholding our commitment to exceptional food quality and service standards. Your main responsibilities will include overseeing kitchen operations, managing food procurement, storage, inventory, and preparation while ensuring compliance with safety and sanitation protocols. You will also mentor kitchen staff in cooking techniques, presentation, portion control, and food cost management. Your aim is to assist the Head Chef in consistently delivering an outstanding dining experience.

Position Responsibilities

  • Effectively manage all kitchen staff to ensure adherence to Snooze policies and procedures.
  • Understand and enforce Snooze personnel policies, providing fair and consistent corrective actions as necessary.
  • Maintain high-quality standards in food preparation, ensuring excellence in every dish served.
  • Assist management in recruitment and termination processes, including interviewing, hiring, training, and evaluating kitchen staff.
  • Ensure all kitchen personnel are trained in safety and sanitation practices, as well as proper equipment usage.
  • Support the Head Chef in preparing necessary documentation, including inventory reports and schedules.
  • Conduct regular inspections to ensure all kitchen equipment is clean and functioning properly.
  • Help manage food costs through proper inventory management and waste reduction strategies.
  • Assist in labor cost management by scheduling staff based on anticipated sales and operational needs.
  • Provide leadership in maintaining Snooze's safety and sanitation standards.
  • Foster a positive, enjoyable, and rewarding work environment for all kitchen staff.

Is This Role Right for You?

To thrive as a Sous Chef at Snooze, candidates should:

  • Be at least 21 years old and authorized to work in the United States.
  • Possess a solid understanding of food, beverage, and safety protocols, with a minimum of 2 years of operational experience and 1 year in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrate strong basic math skills and familiarity with cash registers and Point of Sale systems. Communication skills in the predominant language of the restaurant's area are essential.
  • Be capable of standing for extended periods (up to 10 hours) and have the stamina to work 45 to 50 hours weekly.
