Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Engineering Technician 5 to join our team at the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development. As a key member of our Dam Safety and Water Resources Section, you will be responsible for conducting technical inspections of levees and dams, preparing reports, and providing technical support to district inspection personnel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct technical inspections of levees and dams to detect and interpret any deficiencies that may pose a threat to the structure and the general public.
  • Prepare and review reports on levee and dam inspections, including monthly maintenance reports.
  • Provide technical support and assistance to levee district inspection personnel in the proper conduct of field investigations of flood protection system infrastructure.
  • Search and retrieve Public Works historical files for DOTD district engineers, DOTD legal section, and the general public.
  • Provide public information pertaining to flooding of a location in the state, to facilitate the dissemination of data prepared and stored by DOTD.
Requirements
  • Possession of a high school diploma or GED, plus three years of sub-professional engineering experience.
  • College training will substitute for the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience, provided that six semester hours of each thirty are in one of these specialized fields: architecture, cartography, chemistry, construction management, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, engineering technology, geography, geology, industrial technology, landscape architecture, math, or physics.
