Job Title: Senior Construction Materials Testing Technician

Thompson Engineering is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Construction Materials Testing Technician to join our team in New Orleans, LA.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the daily construction materials testing and inspection on construction sites to ensure compliance with specified standards of quality.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct daily construction materials testing and inspection on construction sites.
  2. Obtain and analyze concrete samples from ready mix trucks.
  3. Prepare and deliver concrete test cylinders to the laboratory.
  4. Run tests on concrete samples and deliver the samples to the laboratory.
  5. Monitor and record construction crew performance data for related activities.
  6. Perform visual inspection of rebar.
  7. Obtain and deliver soil samples from the jobsite to the laboratory.
  8. Interact with clients and contractors in a professional and ethical manner.
  9. Ensure that company-owned equipment is maintained in good working order for use on projects and/or assignments.
  10. Implement standards for quality and quantity of work on all work assignments.
  11. Establish and maintain a daily diary of all field activities for each project.
  12. Submit daily reports and other documentation to the Org Manager as required by project specifications and/or applicable criteria.
  13. Perform all tasks assigned in a professional and ethical manner and according to company policies and procedures.
  14. Report to the Org Manager corrective actions (when necessary) to best ensure that the quality of work is maintained and meets company standards.
  15. Follow all written procedures for work being performed.
  16. Proactively review all project documents and testing procedures, and exhibit comprehension for the technical requirements and procedures necessary to perform the assigned work.
  17. Prepare reports and perform field activities in a timely manner.
  18. Attend and actively participate in safety meetings and training programs to further enhance technical capabilities.

Requirements:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Four (4) years of experience in a CMT Technician position and one (1) year in a supervisory role.
  3. Level IV Certifications for relevant work assignments.
  4. Valid driver's license.
  5. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Ability to work flexible schedules and overtime as needed.
  2. Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 40 lbs.
  3. Safe operation of a company vehicle.
  4. Ability to pull or push 400 lbs. in a wheelbarrow.
  5. Ability to walk, stoop, bend, and climb up and down stairs and ladders.
  6. Ability to stand, walk, and balance in irregular and uneven terrain and pavements, concrete, grass, dirt, and gravel.
  7. Ability to work in high grounds and high open buildings.
  8. Ability to work outside for extended periods in the heat and cold.
  9. Ability to wear appropriate PPE for hazardous materials.
  10. Ability to read and write in English.
