Job Summary

As a Veterinarian at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional care to our nonhuman primate population. Our team of veterinarians works closely with researchers to ensure the health and well-being of our animals, while also advancing our understanding of primate biology and improving human health.

Responsibilities
  • Design and Implement Animal Care Programs: Develop and implement programs to prevent disease and promote health in our animal colonies.
  • Provide Veterinary Care: Conduct physical exams, diagnose medical conditions, treat injuries and diseases, and provide surgical and post-operative care for animals in various environments.
  • Document Medical Procedures: Accurately document medical procedures and activities, and disseminate information to relevant stakeholders.
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert: Provide expert guidance to research staff and animal care/use committees to support the wellbeing of research animals.
  • Develop and Facilitate Trainings: Develop and deliver training programs to staff and students on animal care methodologies and processes.
  • Supervise and Mentor: Supervise and mentor veterinary technicians dedicated to the support of sophisticated anesthetic and/or surgical procedures.
Requirements
  • Terminal Degree: DVM - Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent degree from an AVMA accredited school of Veterinary Medicine, or successful completion of ECFVG program.
  • Experience: At least one year of experience as a Veterinarian strongly preferred. Prior supervisory experience preferred. Experience with nonhuman primates in a research setting highly desired.
  • Licensure: Wisconsin Veterinary License. Must be eligible to obtain and maintain licensure to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Wisconsin at the time of start date.
