Job Summary

As a Veterinarian at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, you will provide exceptional care to our large population of nonhuman primates, including Old World and New World monkeys. You will work closely with research scientists to support biomedical and behavioral research, utilizing cutting-edge clinical and surgical techniques and equipment. Our team is dedicated to advancing our understanding of primate biology and improving human health and quality of life.

Responsibilities
  • Design and implement animal care programs to ensure the health and well-being of our research animals.
  • Conduct physical exams, diagnose medical conditions, and provide surgical and post-operative care for animals in various environments.
  • Document medical procedures and activities, disseminate information, and make medical recommendations based on results.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert, consultant, and unit liaison to internal and external stakeholders and leadership regarding research protocols.
  • Assist in the development and review of protocols, operating policies and procedures, and grant applications as needed.
  • Develop and facilitate trainings, educational courses, and affiliated materials to staff and students on animal care methodologies and processes.
  • Supervise, mentor, and work side-by-side with veterinary technicians dedicated to the support of sophisticated anesthetic and/or surgical procedures.
Requirements
  • Terminal Degree: DVM - Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent degree from an AVMA accredited school of Veterinary Medicine, or successful completion of ECFVG program.
  • At least one year of experience as a Veterinarian strongly preferred.
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience with nonhuman primates in a research setting highly desired.
