Dental Hygienist

We are seeking a highly skilled Dental Hygienist to join our team at the Indian Health Service. As a key member of our dental department, you will play a vital role in providing comprehensive oral health education and dental hygiene treatment to diverse patient groups.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct preliminary examinations on new dental service patients and record and review patient medical history.
- Examine teeth and periodontium for evidence of plaque and periodontal disease, and prepare dental hygiene treatment plans for patients.
- Develop and interpret routine X-Rays to identify tooth structures, calculus, and abnormalities such as cavities, traumatic occlusion.
- Assist the dentist by making repairs and adjustments to teeth, and instruct patients at chairside in oral hygiene, brushing and flossing techniques, and periodontal aids.
- Chart conditions of decay and disease for diagnosis and treatment by dentist, and provide clinical services or health education to improve and maintain the oral health of patients.
- Apply fluorides or other cavity preventing agents to arrest dental decay, and administer local anesthetic agents.
- Remove excess cement from coronal surfaces of teeth, and conduct dental health clinics for community groups to augment services of dentist.
- Must be currently licensed to practice as a dental hygienist in a State or territory of the United States or the District of Columbia.
- Must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level, performing duties such as examining and assessing patients, determining if systemic conditions are present and plan treatments, and providing oral health education services to individuals and groups.
- Must have experience in community health, preparing and conducting educational lectures and demonstrations on dental hygiene, planning public health programs, and providing advice and policy guidance to dental personnel on public health matters.
This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit and may be eligible for recruitment or relocation incentives. At least a one year service agreement will be required. This position meets the criteria specified in pillar number one of the five pillars of the PHS Commissioned Corps.
