About the Role

Oregon Veterinary Medical Association seeks a seasoned professional to serve as the Director of Animal Resources/Attending Veterinarian in the Office of Research and Creative Activity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Oversight
    • Provide strategic leadership and oversight of the animal care and use program.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines and industry standards.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to maintain the highest standards of animal care and use.
  • Veterinary Care and Biosecurity
    • Oversee the health and welfare of animals used in research and teaching.
    • Maintain and implement a comprehensive animal biosecurity program.
    • Provide veterinary care and oversight for research animals.
  • Training and Education
    • Develop and implement training programs for research staff and students on animal handling and veterinary care.
    • Ensure appropriate training and certification of all personnel involved in animal care and use.
  • Regulatory Compliance
    • Prepare for and participate in institutional site visits by external oversight organizations.
    • Assist in ensuring compliance with all federal regulations and industry standards concerning animal care and use.
Requirements
  • DVM, VMD, or equivalent degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school.
  • Current veterinary licensure in one US state and eligibility for licensure in Oregon.
  • A minimum of six (6) years of post-doctoral clinical and research experience or completion of a laboratory animal residency.
Preferred Qualifications
  • American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) board certification or equivalent.
  • A minimum of six (6) years of experience providing veterinary care to animals in a research setting.
  • Experience working as a veterinarian in a university or research environment.
