We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Patient Care Assistant to join our team at Lifespan. As a Patient Care Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support to our patients and their families.
Key Responsibilities- Assist professional nurses in caring for patients by performing various tasks related to hospitality, transport, procurement of equipment and supplies, and maintenance of a clean and safe environment.
- Responsible for daily cleaning of equipment used in caring for patients, including commodes, utility and storage areas, kitchen, room, and supplement storage cabinets and drawers.
- Maintain general neatness of the unit to ensure hallways and general travel ways are free from obstruction.
- Stock patient rooms with medical and/or other supplies, dispose of linen bags, and ensure proper setup of medical equipment/supplies in each patient's room.
- Deliver dirty equipment to the Central Sterile Department for proper cleaning.
- Maintain order in utility rooms, storage areas, and kitchens by arranging items in their proper place, restocking shelves, and checking dated items to ensure they are usable.
- Pick up and deliver supplies, such as intravenous (IV) solutions, routine supplies, medications, laboratory specimens, medical records, and equipment being repaired by Facilities Management.
- Check equipment on the unit, ensure all electrical equipment has up-to-date inspection stickers, and report findings to the Clinical Manager.
- Notify the Clinical Manager when equipment/environment requires repair.
- Respond to patient call lights and deliver patients' requests to the person caring for the patient.
- Adjust beds and respond to other similar requests, and assist in lifting, positioning, or getting patients out of bed as directed by the Registered Nurse.
- High school graduate or General Equivalency Diploma.
- Reads, writes, and speaks English.
- Displays interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients, visitors, physicians, and hospital staff of all levels.
- Ability to identify cardiopulmonary arrest and initiate CPR. BLS Certification required.
- Mathematical abilities to read, interpret, and document intake and refrigerator temperature logs and order supplies.
- Ability to perform responsibilities in emergency/code situations.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout their life span with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
- Emergency Room experience preferred.
- Knowledge of specialized Emergency Medical instruments, equipment, procedures, and practices preferred.
Exposure to patient environment with associated hazards minimized by adherence to established precautions for safety, infection control, and department policies and procedures.
Physical ability to lift, carry, push, and deliver moderately heavy supplies.
Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods while performing job duties.
