Position Overview:

The Office of the University Ombuds is seeking qualified candidates for a part-time Ombuds position. This role is essential in safeguarding the rights, interests, and privileges of students, faculty, and staff across the university's diverse operations and programs. As a neutral and confidential resource, the Ombuds Office plays a pivotal role in providing guidance on university policies and procedures while adhering to the ethical standards set by the International Ombuds Association (IOA).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a neutral mediator and consultant, offering equitable guidance to all university community members, particularly focusing on administrative professionals and classified staff.
  • Facilitate the resolution of conflicts and grievances through informal investigation and mediation processes.
  • Maintain a confidential environment while providing assistance on complex and sensitive issues.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision, collaborating with other University Ombuds as necessary.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • A Bachelor's degree coupled with four years of experience in higher education.
  • Proven knowledge of university structures, policies, and procedures.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Experience in mediation or dispute resolution.
  • Ability to engage effectively with individuals and groups at all levels.
  • Commitment to promoting inclusivity and client service.

Preferred:

  • Advanced degree beyond a bachelor's.
  • Experience in conflict resolution, mediation, or negotiation.
  • Familiarity with relevant state laws affecting the Ombuds Office.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license or ability to obtain one upon hire.

Additional Information:

This is a permanent part-time position with a 50% FTE. The role is eligible for overtime compensation and comes with a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and retirement options.
