Position Overview: Chess Instructor

Are you dedicated to nurturing young minds through the game of chess? At Magnus Chess Academy, we are seeking individuals who are passionate about teaching and engaging with elementary school students. With nearly two decades of experience in educating a vast number of children, we are eager to welcome you to our team.

Compensation: $55 - $75 per hour for each club session

Note: The total time commitment includes preparation and cleanup tasks.

If you:

  • Have a love for chess and a strong enthusiasm for the game
  • Enjoy instructing small groups of children aged 5-11
  • Are available for part-time positions during after-school hours and full-time roles in the summer
  • Possess prior experience as a camp counselor, tutor, coach, or in similar capacities
  • Are comfortable with driving and have a flexible schedule

We provide thorough paid training to ensure you have the skills necessary to teach chess effectively in a group setting.

Sample Daily Schedule:

  • 2:45 PM - Arrive and prepare the classroom
  • 3:00 PM - Conduct lessons for students
  • 3:20 PM - Organize practice matches
  • 4:00 PM - Clean up and assist with student pickups

Qualifications:

  • Understanding of chess rules and basic strategies, or a willingness to learn
  • Interest in working with young children; prior classroom experience is advantageous
  • Must have a reliable vehicle for transportation
  • Ability to lift teaching materials weighing up to 25 lbs

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise a class of 10-20 students
  • Deliver lessons aligned with our curriculum, focusing on rules and strategies
  • Encourage sportsmanship among students
  • Efficiently maintain teaching equipment and materials
