Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Clinical Nurse (Ambulatory) to join our team at the Defense Health Agency Civilian Corps in Falls Church, VA. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide high-quality patient care and education in a fast-paced ambulatory setting.

Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive telephone and clinical triaging, and facilitate care coordination through a multidisciplinary approach.
  • Establish priorities for patient care and evaluate patients' progress toward high-level wellness.
  • Provide patient education as an integral part of the services offered.
  • Act as relief nurse, triage and screen walk-in patients to assess the severity of the patient's condition and the need for provider intervention.
  • Communicate with providers regarding determinations and situations, document events appropriately.
  • Screen patient charts to assess the medical history and determine health care needs.
  • Make psychosocial assessment of patients to identify significant cultural practices, the ability to understand and cooperate, and expectations of care and coping mechanisms.
  • Execute or ensure the completion of orders from health care providers.
  • Recognize and report abnormal test results, changes in symptoms and the need for follow-up.
  • Record data on patient charts.
  • Assist health care providers with examinations and procedures.
  • Oversee educating patients for high risk, painful or stressful procedures with education and support.
  • Monitor or ensure the monitoring of patients pre, during and post-procedure per established protocols and SOPs.
  • Assess post-procedure patients prior to their release from the clinic.
  • Ensure complete, thorough documentation for all procedures.
  • Prepare and administer oral, subcutaneous, intra-muscular and intravenous medications.
  • Independently instruct and demonstrate to patients how to provide self-care.
  • Instruct patient in self-medication of prescribed pharmaceutical agents.
  • Reinforce health care provider instructions and encourage patient in the maintenance of health and self-care.
  • Respond to emergency situations.
Qualifications
  • Must maintain current and valid RN license in a state, US Territory or District of Columbia.
  • Must maintain Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Must maintain Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Must maintain Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP)
  • A Childcare Background is required; must have and maintain a favorable Criminal Background Check as a condition of employment.
