About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Student Supervisor to join our Knowledge Access and Resource Management (KARM) department at West Virginia University Libraries. As a Student Supervisor, you will play a critical role in managing the day-to-day activities of our student assistants, ensuring the smooth operation of our department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and coordinate the work of 8-10 student assistants, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Manage student worker special projects and daily tasks, including copy cataloging, physical gift processing, and database maintenance.
  • Coordinate all physical gift processing workflows, including receiving, processing, and cataloging gifts.
  • Provide project management support for five phases of project management life cycle, ensuring timely completion of project tasks and effective communication with stakeholders.
  • Identify and complete projects related to changes in physical collections, including communication and coordination with libraries and departments as needed.
  • Participate in project initiation and planning activities to understand project specifications, tasks, and milestones.
  • Correspond and coordinate with WVU Library donors, answering questions regarding gift policies and arranging donation dates and times.
  • Hire, schedule, discipline, and terminate student assistants, and develop a budget for their work.
  • Evaluate student worker performance and provide feedback, guidance, and progressive discipline as needed.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • 6 months or more of experience in a library, technical services, or integrated library systems environment.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple workflows concurrently.
  • Familiarity with library collection management.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate information with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Basic knowledge of bibliographic records and MARC format.
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in email, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and customer service skills.
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs, sit and stand for long hours, and push fully loaded carts.
