Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Rail Infrastructure Engineer to join our team. As a key player in our freight rail program, you will be responsible for leading and participating in the design and development of critical infrastructure projects. Your expertise will be instrumental in shaping the future of rail transportation and ensuring the safe and efficient movement of goods and people.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and participate in the design and development of rail infrastructure projects, including railroad and civil engineering design.
  • Manage scope, budget, and schedule for projects, as well as develop design criteria, specifications, and project guides.
  • Perform detailed quality control reviews of projects and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Support project managers in marketing and contracting activities, as well as client and stakeholder visits, site visits, and construction inspections.
  • Represent HDR at industry events and conferences, promoting our expertise and services.
  • Mentor junior staff and support their technical development, ensuring the growth and success of our team.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Professional Engineering (P.E. or P. Eng.) license.
  • 5 years of experience in railroad or civil design, including a minimum of 2 years of experience in the railroad industry.
  • Proven expertise in rail and/or civil design projects, including experience with AREMA's Manual for Railway Engineering (MRE) and other railroad design guidelines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Project software, as well as experience with MicroStation or AutoCAD.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, strong communication skills, and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Desire to mentor junior staff and grow in skill set related to the railroad industry.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to become licensed as a P.E. or P. Eng. in additional jurisdictions through the NCEES or similar.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects through design and production, coordinating with other disciplines and production staff.
  • Project Management experience managing projects for rail, industrial, or transit clients.
  • Demonstrated client development or client management experience.
  • Construction inspection or construction management experience is a plus.
  • Experience in technical writing, communicating, and presenting to clients and the public is desirable.
