Position Overview

Summary:

The role involves executing and supporting both fundamental and advanced procedures within the pulmonary laboratory for patients requiring specialized services.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conducts pulmonary function assessments using the Sensor Medics system.
  2. Administers metabolic stress evaluations utilizing the Sensor Medics system.
  3. Provides assistance to the physician during bronchoscopy and thoracentesis, ensuring that all samples collected are accurately labeled and dispatched to the laboratory.
  4. Performs Arterial Blood Gas (ABG) punctures and employs current technology for sample analysis, ensuring results are recorded in the Cerner Laboratory Computer System.
  5. Executes and documents quality control measures and calibrations for all laboratory equipment.
  6. Assists the physician in specialized bronchoscopy procedures, including EBUS and navigational techniques.
  7. Participates in mandatory departmental meetings and training sessions as required by PEP standards.
  8. Meets all compliance obligations associated with the position.
  9. Undertakes additional responsibilities as assigned.

Educational Requirements:

Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy is required, along with a minimum of three years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist or Pulmonary Function Technologist.

Certifications:

Must possess RRT or CPFT credentials from the National Board for Respiratory Care, with the expectation to achieve RPFT certification within one year of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience in conducting pulmonary function tests is desirable.

Working Conditions:

Manual Skills: Requires significant manual dexterity and coordination.

Occupational Risks: Some exposure to occupational hazards.

Physical Demands: Medium to heavy physical effort may be required, including the ability to exert up to 35 lbs. of force.

Environmental Factors: Potential exposure to dirt, odors, noise, and biological materials.
