Job Description: As the Deputy Director of State Social Media at Courier Newsroom, you will play a pivotal role in supporting our social media managers and fostering an environment where they can grow and succeed.

The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience managing social media teams for a news outlet, nonprofit, or advocacy organization. They will be able to lead and mentor a team with a collaborative and empathetic approach, providing day-to-day support to a distributed team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Management & Mentorship: Lead and mentor a team of state social media managers, providing daily support and guidance to ensure their personal and professional growth.
  • Day-to-Day Operations: Oversee the day-to-day execution of social media activities across state newsrooms, ensuring alignment with company goals and timelines.
  • Problem Solving & Support: Act as the go-to person for troubleshooting challenges that arise in the social media teams daily work, providing quick solutions and helping manage any issues that may impede their progress.
  • Content Oversight: Ensure that content produced by state social media managers meets Couriers editorial standards and aligns with each platforms best practices.
  • Collaborative Leadership: Serve as a liaison between the social media team and other departments, ensuring effective communication and that the team has everything they need to succeed.
  • Empathy & Encouragement: Cultivate a supportive and inclusive team environment, encouraging open communication, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience managing social media teams for a news outlet, nonprofit, or advocacy organization.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring a team with a collaborative and empathetic approach.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines while providing day-to-day support to a distributed team.
  • Experience in social media content creation and familiarity with platform-specific best practices.
