Clinical Internship Opportunity
Catholic Charities offers a clinical internship opportunity for graduate students in the social work/human services field. This internship provides a chance to work with licensed clinical staff and diverse client populations.
The clinical internship is a clinical practice position for students in an accredited human services master's degree program. It prepares students to perform clinical duties in accordance with licensing, certification, and accreditation standards.
The individual is expected to embrace the co-occurring treatment philosophy, which integrates a strength-based, child/family-centered, trauma-informed, culturally competent, and recovery-oriented approach.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide clinical services to a selected client population under close supervision.
- Learn to successfully engage clients in services, demonstrated by client treatment completion rates, increased client functioning, and client completion of treatment plan objectives.
- Formulate psychosocial evaluations, diagnoses, and treatment plans in consultation with a supervisor.
- Demonstrate an increasing comprehension of human behavior, family systems, substance abuse, co-occurring disorders, and intervention techniques.
- Provide treatment services appropriate to the client's personal and cultural identity and language.
- Evaluate and treat co-occurring disorders using a standardized co-occurring assessment tool.
- Document client history and chronology of mental health and substance abuse disorders.
- Write treatment plans addressing mental health and substance abuse disorders in specific detail.
- Use treatment interventions in addition to medications to address mental health disorders.
- Provide integrated evidence-based practice to clients, as evidenced by supervisor observation, case presentations, and audio or video taped sessions.
- Determine client readiness for treatment and change, as well as the needs of others involved in the current situation.
- Formulate mutually agreed-on and measurable treatment goals and objectives.
- Carry out appropriate treatment plans, according to best practice standards, and evaluate progress throughout treatment and at termination.
- Provide assessment and treatment through individual, family, and group treatment modalities, tailoring helping strategies and treatment modalities to the client's stage of change or recovery.
- Integrate evidence-based practice into client service delivery.
- Work efficiently to achieve 100% of assigned productivity expectations by the end of the internship.
- Evaluate and treat co-occurring disorders and link to appropriate supports.
- Adhere to professional ethical and behavioral standards of conduct to maintain professional standards and safeguard the client.
- Learn resources of the local community and share them with colleagues and clients, as appropriate.
- Locate and coordinate the provision of appropriate supportive services and community resources, as needed.
- Provide advocacy services on behalf of the client, when appropriate.
- Demonstrate respect and non-judgmental attitudes toward clients, community professionals, and agencies.
- Record case activity within required timeframes, according to agency procedures and requirements.
- Work as part of a team.
- Accept special learning assignments and participate in learning opportunities.
- Understand and follow agency policies and procedures.
- Participate in ongoing supervision, consultation, staff meetings, and appropriate training.
- Maintain status as an active student at an accredited school in a human services-related education program.
- Accept and carry out other related duties, as requested.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree.
- Enrolled in a Master's degree program in a human services field that prepares students to perform clinical duties in accordance with licensing, certification, and accreditation standards.
- Preferably, related experience in direct practice services.
