About the Department of Child Services:

Role Overview:

As a Family Case Manager, you will serve as a specialist in social services within the Department of Child Services. Your responsibilities will include safeguarding families and children from neglect or abuse, facilitating family reunification when possible, and ensuring a permanent home or independent living for children who cannot be reunited with their families.

Compensation Overview:

The starting salary for this position is generally $47,320.00, with potential adjustments based on education and experience.

A Day in the Life:

In this position, your duties will encompass:

  • Conducting thorough investigations into reported incidents of child abuse or neglect, assessing their validity, and making recommendations for appropriate actions.
  • Evaluating the level of risk to children and implementing necessary protective measures, including removing them from harmful situations.
  • Performing needs assessments for families and children in crisis, developing treatment plans, and collaborating with community resources.
  • Preparing documentation, maintaining case files, and engaging with families to support them in achieving self-sufficiency and a safe environment.
  • Facilitating family reunification, adoption, or independent living efforts for children in out-of-home placements.
  • Monitoring service providers to ensure compliance with case plans and conducting home studies for adoption placements.
  • Being available for on-call duties related to investigating child abuse or neglect allegations as required.
  • Collecting and analyzing data to identify trends and effectively address the needs of families and children.

Qualifications for Success:

To be eligible for this role, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Fulfill specific education/experience requirements, such as a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in human services.
  • Possess a solid understanding of social work principles, child protection laws, and related services.
  • Demonstrate the ability to conduct comprehensive investigations, prepare reports, and work effectively with diverse families and individuals.
  • Exhibit strong judgment and crisis management skills, particularly in sensitive situations.

Additionally, you must maintain a valid driver's license to continue your employment.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This role may involve supervisory duties based on agency requirements.
