Position Overview
The Rail Division of King County Metro Transit is looking for a dedicated professional to fill the position of Rail Operations Superintendent. This leadership role is pivotal in fostering collaboration among team members, stakeholders, and the community to ensure the delivery of high-quality transit services. The successful candidate will be instrumental in driving key strategic initiatives within the division, including:

• Ensuring operational excellence
• Facilitating timely service expansions
• Strengthening partnerships with regional transit authorities
The Rail Operations Superintendent will oversee a proficient team tasked with managing essential administrative functions that bolster the Rail Division's operations.
This position demands exceptional communication skills to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders, adept problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to fostering a culture of continuous improvement and employee engagement. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership capabilities, experience in managing multiple priorities, and a solid understanding of equity and social justice principles, particularly in enhancing opportunities for underrepresented groups.
Key Responsibilities
1) Lead a team in managing budgetary, financial, and administrative operations by:
- Overseeing daily functions and supervising staff while acting as a strategic advisor to management.
- Directing the formulation and execution of strategic objectives and policies.
- Fostering the development of a skilled team through mentorship and support.
2) Deliver high-quality administrative services by:
- Establishing performance benchmarks and recommending improvements to operational policies.
- Collaborating with finance and administration teams to develop clear policies and procedures.
- Representing the section in various internal and external committees.
3) Drive continuous improvement by:
- Developing key performance indicators for financial and administrative functions.
- Supporting teams in implementing process enhancements.
- Analyzing operational trends to optimize staffing and resource allocation.
4) Enhance partnerships by:
- Building collaborative relationships with labor unions and addressing grievances.
5) Act on behalf of senior management as necessary and perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Public Administration, or a related field, along with significant supervisory experience.
- Proven experience in budget management and administrative oversight.
- Strong commitment to equity, inclusion, and employee engagement.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
- Experience in leading multidisciplinary teams and fostering a positive work culture.
