Emergent Bilingual Student Support Specialist

The Katy Independent School District is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented individual to serve as an EL Testing Center Clerk. This role will support the Director of ESL and Bilingual programs in identifying Emergent Bilingual students who participate in ESL or Bilingual programs.
Key Responsibilities- Review Prior District Data: Review prior district data for students with a language other than English to identify potential Emergent Bilingual students.
- Prepare Documentation: Prepare required documentation for Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC) meetings to ensure accurate and timely assessments.
- Support Daily Operations: Support the daily operations of the EL District Testing Center, including interviewing students/families, administering EL language proficiency assessments, contacting prior Texas districts for records, and communicating with parents.
- Assist with Training: Assist with training on the administration of the state-identified language proficiency assessments to ensure accurate and consistent results.
- Comply with Policies: Comply with federal, state, and local policies and guidelines relating to ELs to ensure compliance and accuracy.
- Assist with Daily Operations: Assist the Coordinator for Parent Centers and EL District Testing Center with daily operations to ensure seamless support.
- Fluent in English and Spanish: Fluency in both oral and written English and Spanish is required to effectively communicate with students, families, and staff.
- College Hours Preferred: College hours are preferred, but not required, to demonstrate a commitment to education and professional development.
- High School Diploma or GED: A high school diploma or GED is required to demonstrate basic education requirements.
- Ability to Work with Students and Families: The ability to work with students and families is essential to provide effective support and services.
- Effective Organizational, Communication, and Interpersonal Skills: Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills are required to work collaboratively with staff and stakeholders.
- Knowledge of ESL and Bilingual Student Data Requirements: Knowledge of ESL and bilingual student data requirements is preferred to ensure accurate and timely assessments.
- Ability to Meet Established Deadlines: The ability to meet established deadlines is essential to ensure timely and accurate assessments.
The EL Testing Center Clerk will use personal computers, printers, copiers, and fax machines to perform daily tasks. The working conditions include maintaining emotional control under stress, working with frequent interruptions, repetitive hand motions, moderate standing, stooping, bending, and lifting, occasional district travel, and occasional prolonged or irregular hours.
