In accordance with the Agreement between the Detroit Federation of Teachers (DFT) and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, this vacancy is announced.

Position Summary:

The Language Arts Educator delivers a challenging curriculum that aligns with the State of Michigan Common Core standards while embodying the mission, vision, and values of the Detroit Public Schools Community District. This role involves collaboration with families and colleagues to promote the academic success of students, alongside regular evaluation and monitoring of student progress.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree from an institution accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools or an equivalent agency.
    • Successful candidates with advanced degrees will qualify for the corresponding salary differential.
  • A valid Michigan Teaching Certificate or Michigan Temporary Teaching Authorization (T2EA), with English (BA), (BX) endorsement(s).

  • Deliver a rigorous curriculum in accordance with State of Michigan Common Core standards.
  • Implement diverse assessment methods to evaluate student learning.
  • Facilitate field studies to enrich classroom learning.
  • Contribute to grade-level and subject-specific conferences.
  • Oversee adherence to school uniform and discipline policies.
  • Encourage parental and family engagement in school activities and curriculum.
  • Lead and participate in professional development initiatives.
  • Provide individualized support to students to ensure satisfactory academic progress.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on school-wide initiatives to promote student success.
  • Communicate with parents regarding student performance and achievements.
  • Instruct students on behavioral expectations and maintain classroom discipline.
  • Support students facing academic and personal challenges.
  • Manage attendance, progress reports, and academic records.
  • Design study programs tailored to students' needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Develop curriculum responsive to student requirements.
  • Assess and monitor student progress regularly.
  • Implement strategies to enhance student learning capabilities.
  • Guide students in the effective use of educational resources.
  • Maintain an inventory of instructional materials and equipment.
  • Keep accurate and comprehensive student records and prepare necessary reports.
Security Clearance:

Internal Applicants:
Current employees of the Detroit Public Schools Community District are not required to undergo a new security clearance unless the new position necessitates a different type of criminal background check.

External Applicants:
In accordance with Michigan law, individuals hired for this position will be required to undergo a criminal background check by the Detroit Public Schools Community District. Details regarding the required background checks will be provided upon hiring.
