In accordance with the Agreement between the Detroit Federation of Teachers (DFT) and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, the following vacancy is announced.

Position Summary:

The Visual Arts Educator is responsible for delivering a comprehensive curriculum that aligns with the State of Michigan Common Core standards while promoting the mission, vision, and values of the Detroit Public Schools Community District. This role involves collaboration with families and staff to ensure the academic achievement of students and regular evaluation of student progress.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution recognized by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools or an equivalent agency.
    • Successful candidates with advanced degrees will qualify for the appropriate salary differential.
  • Must hold a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate or Michigan Temporary Teaching Authorization (T2EA), Art (LX), (LQ) endorsement(s).

  • Collaborate with educators, parents, and community stakeholders.
  • Enhance team teaching practices and pursue professional growth.
  • Deliver a rigorous curriculum that meets State of Michigan Common Core standards.
  • Implement diverse assessment methods to gauge student understanding.
  • Facilitate field studies to enrich classroom learning.
  • Contribute to grade-level and subject matter conferences.
  • Enforce school uniform and discipline policies.
  • Encourage parental and family engagement in school activities and curriculum.
  • Lead and participate in professional development initiatives.
  • Provide individualized support to students to promote satisfactory progress.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on school-wide initiatives to ensure student success.
  • Communicate with parents regarding student progress and achievements.
  • Instruct students on classroom conduct and maintain discipline.
  • Support students facing academic and personal challenges.
  • Manage attendance, progress reports, and grading records.
  • Design study programs tailored to students' needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Develop curriculum based on student requirements.
  • Regularly assess and evaluate student progress.
  • Monitor individual student performance.
  • Implement strategies to enhance student learning capabilities.
  • Guide students in the proper use of materials and resources.
  • Maintain an inventory of instructional materials and equipment.
  • Keep accurate student records and prepare necessary reports.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Security Clearance:

Internal Applicants:
If you are currently employed by the Detroit Public Schools Community District, a new security clearance is not required unless your new position necessitates a different type of criminal background check.

External Applicants:
In accordance with Michigan law, candidates hired for this position will be required to undergo a criminal background check. Details regarding the required background checks will be provided upon hiring.
