Job Summary

The Lead Teacher will be responsible for leading our Jaguar Acceleration and Governance (JAG) program, a restorative approach to student re-direction that supports students with behavioral challenges. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment, as well as a genuine passion for nurturing the academic and personal development of middle school students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement Instructional Plans: Create engaging and developmentally appropriate lesson plans aligned with the school's curriculum, Common Core, and state standards.
  • Foster a Positive Learning Environment: Establish a positive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters a love for learning, respectful behavior, and a sense of community among students.
  • Assess Student Progress: Regularly assess student progress through a variety of formative and summative assessments.
  • Communicate with Parents and Guardians: Provide constructive feedback to students and communicate progress to parents/guardians.
  • Collaborate with Colleagues: Work collaboratively with fellow teachers, administrators, and support staff to enhance the overall educational experience and contribute to the school's positive and collaborative culture.
  • Stay Current with Educational Trends: Stay informed about current educational trends, participate in professional development opportunities, and continuously seek ways to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Certification: Valid Michigan Teaching Certification with at least one of the following endorsements: K-5 All Subjects; K-8 All Subjects Self-Contained Classrooms (ZG), K-8 All Subjects (ZC), 7-8 All Subjects (ZK), English Language Arts (BQ), Mathematics (EQ), Science (DQ) or Social Studies (CQ).
  • Experience: Previous experience teaching middle school students.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Child Development and Pedagogy: Strong understanding of child development, pedagogy, and effective instructional strategies.
  • Restorative Practices: Strong understanding of restorative practices and responsive classroom management.
  • Arts Integration: Passion for integrating arts into the curriculum and promoting creativity in the classroom.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer Skills: Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office and the Google Suite.
