Position Overview

The Fire Protection Analyst plays a critical role in ensuring that all construction and renovation projects adhere to fire safety regulations and standards. This position is responsible for conducting thorough evaluations of plans and specifications related to fire suppression, detection systems, hazardous materials, and high-pile storage.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and guide the activities of the team, including recruitment, task assignments, performance assessments, and staff development.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive fire protection analysis and chemical hazard programs.
  • Conduct fire safety analyses and provide recommendations on hazardous materials storage and complex fire protection systems.
  • Review and approve building plans, fire alarm systems, and assess potential hazards.
  • Offer technical guidance regarding fire and building codes.
  • Coordinate the Hazardous Material Enforcement Program with relevant agencies.
  • Perform inspections of construction sites and existing structures to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Assist in training staff on code enforcement and fire safety practices.
  • Conduct research on materials and systems to assess their safety and effectiveness.
  • Provide expert testimony in legal proceedings as needed.
  • Evaluate requests for alternative materials or methods and provide recommendations.
  • Analyze proposed municipal code revisions and confer with developers on potential projects.
Qualifications

Education: A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in fire protection, civil, chemical, or mechanical engineering, or construction engineering technology.

Experience: A minimum of three years of progressive experience in fire protection systems analysis, including both commercial and residential plan reviews.

Certifications: Must possess the following certifications issued by the California State Fire Marshal:

  • CSFM Fire Inspector I Certification
  • CSFM Fire Inspector II Certification
  • CSFM Plans Examiner Certification

License: A valid California Class C driver's license with a satisfactory driving record is required.
