Position Overview:

The Respiratory Care Specialist Tier II plays a vital role in evaluating patients suffering from respiratory ailments, performing diagnostic assessments, creating individualized treatment strategies, and delivering respiratory interventions.

This position involves operating medical apparatus, tracking patient reactions, and providing urgent care when necessary. The specialist collaborates closely with healthcare professionals to manage respiratory issues, enhance lung capacity, and promote overall patient health. Working with some oversight, this role also involves educating patients on respiratory wellness and preventative measures.

Key Responsibilities:
- Restores pulmonary function and alleviates discomfort by planning and delivering prescribed respiratory treatments.

- Ensures high-quality care by performing pulmonary function assessments, interpreting results, and formulating respiratory therapy plans in conjunction with physicians.

- Aids patients in achieving their treatment goals by administering inhaled medications, operating mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas delivery systems, environmental control devices, and aerosol delivery systems.

- Conducts respiratory therapy sessions by performing bronchopulmonary drainage, assisting with respiratory exercises, and monitoring physiological responses to treatment, including vital signs and blood gas levels.

- Evaluates the effectiveness of the respiratory therapy regimen by observing, documenting, and assessing patient progress, suggesting necessary adjustments.

- Facilitates discharge planning by collaborating with physicians, nursing staff, social workers, and other healthcare professionals, contributing to patient care discussions.

- Ensures continuity of care post-discharge by developing home exercise programs and instructing patients, families, and caregivers on these programs.

- Performs additional duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications:
EDUCATION: Required: High School Diploma or equivalent; Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program, licensed by the NC Board of Respiratory Care.
EXPERIENCE: Required: Minimum of 3 years in acute clinical care, or completion of equivalent acute care clinical rotations.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Required: Certified by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT); Licensed by the North Carolina Respiratory Care Board as a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or RRT; BLS (CPR) certification from the American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider; ACLS certification from the American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider.
