Position Overview:
The Respiratory Care Practitioner plays a crucial role in evaluating patients with respiratory ailments, performing diagnostic assessments, formulating treatment strategies, and delivering respiratory interventions. This position involves operating medical equipment, monitoring patient reactions, and providing urgent care when necessary. Collaboration with healthcare teams is essential to manage respiratory issues, enhance lung performance, and promote overall patient health. Under moderate supervision, this role also involves educating patients on respiratory wellness and preventive measures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Restores pulmonary function and alleviates discomfort by implementing prescribed respiratory treatments.
- Ensures high-quality care through the execution of pulmonary function assessments, interpreting evaluations and test outcomes, and devising respiratory therapy plans in collaboration with physicians.
- Aids patients in achieving their treatment objectives by administering inhalants, managing mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas delivery systems, environmental control units, and aerosol generators.
- Conducts respiratory therapy procedures, including bronchopulmonary drainage, assisting with breathing exercises, and monitoring physiological responses to treatment, such as vital signs and blood gas levels.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of respiratory therapy by observing and documenting patient progress, recommending necessary adjustments to the treatment plan.
- Facilitates discharge planning by collaborating with physicians, nursing staff, social workers, and other healthcare professionals, contributing to patient care discussions.
- Ensures continuity of care post-discharge by designing home exercise programs and instructing patients, families, and caregivers on these programs.
- Performs additional duties as assigned or required.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION: Required: High School Diploma or equivalent; Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program, licensed by the relevant state board.
EXPERIENCE: Required: Minimum of 3 years in acute clinical care, or completion of equivalent clinical rotations in acute care settings.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Required: Certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT); Licensed by the state respiratory care board as a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or RRT; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from a recognized provider; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from a recognized provider.
