Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise internal medicine residents on medicine/psychiatry rotation and provide guidance on patient care.
  • Conduct thorough history and physical examinations, coordinate diagnostic assessments, and manage medical issues.
  • Develop comprehensive treatment plans with the clinical team and ensure safe plans of care.
  • Collaborate with psychiatrists to address psychiatric, substance abuse, and medical issues.
  • Document patient care in the medical record, adhering to departmental standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform phlebotomy, follow up on abnormal lab reports, and provide appropriate care.
  • Participate in aftercare services planning, ensuring necessary follow-up medical care is organized.
  • Assess patients at discharge, medically clear them, prescribe medications, and arrange follow-ups.
  • Identify acute medical/surgical problems and request necessary consultations.
  • Respond to urgent calls from psychiatry or detox in the absence of the hospitalist/internist.
  • Review communication books, acknowledge problems, and participate in teaching activities.
  • Cover medical floors on weekends as assigned.
Requirements
  • Board certification in Internal Medicine.
  • Licensed in the State of New York to practice medicine.
  • Experience in chemical dependency, HIV-related problems, and common psychiatric disorders.
  • Proficiency with Office PCs, desktops, and laptop software, including Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and coaching skills.

This position requires prolonged periods of standing, walking, talking, sitting, hearing, and bending throughout the workday. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions without compromising patient care.
