Portfolio Risk Management Specialist

The primary focus of this position is to gather, evaluate, oversee, and report on credit risk data from individual loans to the overall portfolio level. This information is crucial for making informed strategic and tactical decisions that significantly influence the Bank's financial health and operational efficiency.

This role requires effective engagement and communication with a diverse range of stakeholders, including members of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and senior managers across various departments such as credit, lending, finance, risk management, loan operations, loan review, internal audit, compliance, treasury, information technology, and data governance, as well as external parties like consultants, auditors, investors, analysts, and regulators.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments of the Bank's loan portfolio, emphasizing both commercial and consumer lending sectors.
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate overall portfolio performance, identifying potential risks and trends to offer proactive insights into asset quality and concentration risks.
  • Prepare and present detailed portfolio risk reports to executive management, the board of directors, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Effectively communicate the quality and credit risk associated with loan portfolio assets through written reports and oral presentations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to generate portfolio reports for external stakeholders, including equity and debt analysts, investors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Design and maintain advanced risk analysis and reporting tools to assess portfolio risk, facilitate strategic decision-making, and enhance overall portfolio quality.
  • Assist in conducting portfolio stress tests and scenario analyses to evaluate the impact of various economic conditions on portfolio stability.
  • Support the quarterly estimation process for the allowance for credit loss (CECL/ACL).
  • Develop, improve, and sustain workflow automation for portfolio risk reporting and analysis.
  • Create and manage dashboards and visualizations of portfolio metrics, transforming data into actionable insights for key stakeholders.
  • Draft and maintain procedures for portfolio risk reporting workflows to ensure business continuity.
  • Conduct in-depth analyses of specific portfolio segments as required.
  • Support the reporting of key credit risk indicators (KPI/KRI) as part of the Bank's risk metrics reporting framework.
  • Complete special projects and ad hoc assignments as needed.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members and interns.
  • Encourage a culture of risk awareness and continuous improvement within the organization.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, business, or a related discipline; an advanced degree (e.g., MBA, CFA) is highly preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in portfolio risk analysis within the banking or financial services industry.
  • Extensive knowledge of commercial and consumer lending products, including C&I loans, CRE mortgages, residential mortgages, home equity loans, and personal loans.
  • Strong analytical capabilities with a proven track record of interpreting complex financial data and identifying critical risk factors.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely to senior stakeholders.
  • Proficient in various information technology solutions, including the Microsoft Office suite, SAS, Alteryx, Tableau, PowerBI, and other data management and risk analysis software.
  • Familiarity with databases and structured query language (SQL).
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
