Job Overview

The primary objective of the Financial Risk Governance Executive is to collaborate closely with the First Line of Defense regarding Liquidity and Market Risk functions. This ensures that the risk management strategies at The Ladders are suitable for the organization's scale, complexity, and operational scope. The Financial Risk Governance Executive plays a pivotal role in enhancing the financial risk oversight framework within Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), ensuring that risk management practices are in line with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Core Duties:
  • Oversee the formulation, execution, and advancement of a comprehensive second line financial risk framework, encompassing market, liquidity, and interest rate risks.
  • Guarantee the accurate identification, measurement, monitoring, and reporting of liquidity and market risks within the organization, in alignment with the established risk appetite and risk taxonomy.
  • Provide constructive challenge to the First Line Treasury team's operations and procedures to ensure effective governance and control over liquidity and market risks, adhering to the ERM Policy and Treasury-related guidelines.
  • Develop and track relevant liquidity and market risk metrics, key risk indicators, and performance indicators for inclusion in ERM and Treasury reporting.
  • Ensure the integration of The Ladders' Enterprise Risk Management Framework across liquidity and market risk initiatives.
  • Design and implement a comprehensive Financial Risk Assessment process to evaluate, quantify, and consolidate liquidity and market risks, including a review of the organization's risk management practices and controls.
  • Evaluate the adequacy of governance, policies, controls, and reporting concerning liquidity and market risk, including frameworks for liquidity contingency planning.
  • Critically assess the analysis and modeling practices of the First Line Treasury function in collaboration with the Second Line Model Risk Management team.
  • Engage in internal audits and regulatory examinations related to risk management, ensuring appropriate remediation of findings.
  • Coordinate with other ERM programs to ensure effective change management and tracking of identified risks.
  • Participate in the Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) process and maintain the risk and control library for liquidity and market risk.
  • Monitor operational risk incidents and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to identify root causes and support remediation efforts.
  • Contribute to the Asset Liability Committee as necessary.
  • Assist in developing and implementing methodologies for risk-adjusted returns on capital.
  • Stay informed on regulatory guidance regarding liquidity and market risk management practices, as well as industry trends and economic developments.
  • Continuously monitor and assess liquidity and market risk exposures, escalating issues as necessary.
  • Act as a partner to senior management within the First Line Treasury function, reviewing operations and advising on risk management frameworks.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degrees or certifications (CFA, MSF, MBA) preferred.
  • 5-7+ years of experience in a First Line Treasury/ALM role or in Second Line liquidity and market risk oversight within an ERM framework at a financial institution.
  • In-depth knowledge of liquidity and market risk practices and Treasury management.
  • Experience in developing and executing risk assessment frameworks.
  • Familiarity with banking industry regulations related to liquidity and market risk management.
  • Knowledge of governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) systems.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • 3-5+ years of experience in people management.
  • Demonstrated success in leading change and improving operational performance.
